Belmullet

The Mullet Peninsula —also known as the Mullet and sometimes as the Erris Peninsula—is a peninsula in the barony of Erris in County Mayo, Ireland. It consists of a large promontory connected to the mainland at Belmullet(Béal an Mhuirthead)., a town of about 1,000 inhabitants, by a narrow isthmus.Dangling some 30km into the Atlantic, this thinly populated Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) peninsula feels more cut off than many islands, and has a similar sense of loneliness. However, you'll find pristine beaches along its sheltered eastern shore, plenty of religious sites plus lots of sheep – often fully blocking the road.
